Administrative Support Specialist (R-6909)

Summary of Duties:

For over 100 years, the WSU Prosser Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (IAREC) in Prosser, WA has focused on research and education that directly benefits our Ag Community, locally and worldwide.  With over 100 staff and students and nearly 30 WSU faculty, USDA and WSDA scientists on site, our support staff is vital to our operations.  If you are looking for a position with a variety of responsibilities that makes a difference in our community, we may have an opening for you!

The Administrative Support Specialist works directly with the management team and faculty and serves primarily as the principal advisor to the Director.  As a main point of contact for IAREC, this position also interacts with staff and students on site, and with local stakeholders, partners, other campuses, departments, Research & Extension Centers (REC) and University and College leadership. The ability to build and maintain good working relationships and open lines of communications and develop strategies to meet the needs of those we serve will be key to the success of this position.

This position will be responsible for administrative support consistent with an assistant role, such as managing schedules, coordinating meetings, reporting, budget analysis and fiscal management, but also takes a lead role in managing processes critical to the success of an REC, its faculty, students, and stakeholders. A large portion of this position’s duties will include acting as lead on developing new educational outreach opportunities and expanding current partnerships, through formalized programs within area high schools, stakeholder workshops, tours, coordination of events, etc. Developing marketing materials and managing our presence on social media and through our website, sharing the accomplishments of our researchers, staff and students and highlighting the programs and services beneficial to our community will be a part of these outreach duties.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business administration or other relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible management work experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email and calendar)
  • Flexibility to travel or work after hours or weekends, with advanced notice
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in multi-cultural team settings
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • At least one-year fiscal related education or experience
  • Experience with layout and design of printed media
  • Experience with WordPress and social media platforms
  • Event planning and coordination
  • Project management software

Work location will be Prosser, WA.

Compensation:

$4,869.40 – $5,478.07 monthly, commensurate with experience.

Personnel/Payroll Specialist (R-7204)

Summary of Duties:

The Personnel/Payroll position will perform a variety of complex H.R. processes and payroll duties in support of Administrative Services at the Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (IAREC) in Prosser, WA. This position will work with all faculty, staff and students. Responsibilities include coordinating all human resource matters related to positions, payroll, and personnel, inclusive of recruitment, onboarding activities, work-related issues, and International visas. This position will work collaboratively with Prosser IAREC administration, staff, faculty, and Human Resource Services to proactively identify issues, and provide effective solutions. The Personnel/Payroll position will also review, develop, and maintain accurate records, maintain electronic and paper files, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Three years of fiscal record keeping experience; OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to use complex, online financial and/or administrative systems.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with confidential data.
  • Payroll experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience in higher education, local or state agency, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of WSU Business Policies and Procedures.

Work location will be Prosser, WA.

Compensation:

Range 40, A-F $3,246 – $3,734. Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28
